Can I give negative 5 Stars? We call them to get a chenille rug cleaned. It was a brand new rug from Pottery Barn, which got stained on a corner due to a baby food spill. Here's the short version of events: 1. When they finally showed up, one of their employees offered a cheaper service if we contacted him directly (RED FLAG!) 2. After changing the delivery date multiple times, the carpet was ruined.
The colors were faded, it went from light green to puke yellow. We refused the delivery, and were promised a color restoration treatment. 3. Seems like all they did was store it again, and brought it back a few weeks after. After another slew of phone calls, they decided to reimburse us for the rug, in exchange of a statement regarding their employee.
Apparently it came out that he was gathering plenty of customers on the side. 4. Ron (the co-owner) was extremely rude to my wife, and went back on his word and said we would not reimburse the cost of the rug originally promised We took them to Small Claims Court, after about a year of no-shows at court, we won the case. We still waiting for the check. should be awarded Worst cleaning service, and probably the most unprofessional customer service in the Tri State area

These people completely ruined my home. First they sent a commercial machine to clean a small 850 sq ft NYC apartment. It blew six fuses and a circuit breaker. The water was too hot and turned an ivory colored chair to pure ugly white. All the bright colors were removed from two oriental rugs valued at $5000 and $3000. When I complained finally the president came by and said he could solve the problem by bringing them to his New Jersey show and brushing the fibers in a single direction.that would restore the brightness he promised.
Of course it did not and the result was pulled fibers. there was a very small ink spot on my Ralph Lauren couch. The way they cleaned it made the ink spread and now I can only use one side of the cushion. I have received no satisfaction for the $540 spent with them and would have taken them to small claims if I had the energy. I certainly must live in a less brightly colored world which is sad. The president talks a good game but either he doesn't mind lying or doesn't know what he is doing. Stay away. Maryellen R

The worse company I have ever dealt with. They ruined my heirloom antique oriental rugs. I initially went with this company because the reviews from other sites were positive (city search and angie's list), so I trusted them. I should have done more research. I had an awful experience. It caused me so much unnecessary stress and spent so much money.
They turned the edges of one of my rugs HOT PINK! I almost died when I saw that. They didn't refund me or even give me a discount for my damaged rug! They even charged my credit card in full WITHOUT my authorization, once I was complaining about my rugs! The owner was extremely rude in the end and didn't do anything about it. Companies like these should be shut down by the city for credit card fraud and ruining people's possessions. I DO NOT recommend this company to ANYONE! Trust me! Do lots of research before choosing a company. That was my biggest lesson. Good luck! G

I am not sure what company these people were dealing with. I called on a tuesday evening and someone was at my door the next morning before i went to work. They picked up the carpet and returned it a week later. No shleping my gross carpet all over the city. and they were nice! My dog had gotten sick ALLLLLLLLLLLL over this carpet and I truly thought that it would never come out. They got it out! THANK YOU YORK!

I too am in the negative star category. They ruined the fringe on my carpet, said they would fix it and returned it twice not fixed. They must of cleaned it instead of fixing the fringe because it then fell apart. They put in a credit for the rest of their work (had my card number from the deposit) when I told them not to until the work was done. When Amex reversed the charge they took me to court where I won a payment. Then they offered to bribe if I took my review off Angies LIst.

I would also like to give a negative star for extreme unreliability, incompetence and/or flat out lying. When I got the estimate, I was told that it would be best to make an appointment for 8:00 am to make sure that the technician arrived on time (techs may not be on time for appts later in the day because of traffic etc.). I scheduled an 8:00 am appointment to ensure that morning errands could get done and I could make it to work on time.
At 8:30 the technician had not arrived. I called York, got their answering service and was told nothing could be done until 9:00. At 9:00 I called and spoke to the office manager (call him J), who told me that the technician had been there at 8:00 and had been turned away by my doorman because the building doesn't allow machinery into the building before 9:00 and that the tech had called me to let me know. (All untrue - my doorman confirmed that he didn't turn anyone away and there was no attempt to call as I will explain in a minute). J mentioned something about having them come another time and I said there was no other time to come and that I had already wasted over an hour of my time waiting for the appointment.
He said that he would call the tech and see what he could do. He called back and told me that the techs were on my street looking for a parking spot and he would send up one tech now while the other parked. Twenty minutes later no tech (and I live on one of the shortest streets in NYC - it takes about 2 minutes to walk from one end to another). I called back and was again told that the techs were looking for a parking spot - no explanation for why the one tech hadn't come upstairs while the other one parked.
Finally at 9:40, a tech arrived and I learned the true story (according to the tech). Apparently, York had scheduled an appointment before mine on the Upper East Side (I am all the way downtown) and the tech was turned away from that building. He couldn't leave that appointment until he got an OK from his boss (the owner of York) and that took some time.
The tech said he couldn't call me because techs aren't allowed to call customers. He called J to let him know what was going on and J said he wouldn't call me until he got into the office at 9:00. In short - either York has no control over what their techs are doing and no ability to ensure timely and reliable service or J knew there was a problem, failed to call me to let me know (wasting my time) and then lied to cover the whole thing up.
I was very late to work and my boyfriend's schedule also was disrupted. I asked for a discount to accommodate us for the inconvenience and after much back and forth was given a $15 discount - hardly enough to make up for the inconvenience, waste of time and being late to work.

Did not show up for two appointments! Then the technician quotes a price $50 higher than the quote on the phone because the couch was a microfiber. When I called the customer service she proceeds to tell me I should have told her it was a different material. Lady, could you have asked when giving the quote? Seven hours of my life wasted on this company. Worst service in NYC.

Beware - Race Based Pricing. I have used this company a few times in the past without issue. I was always home to speak with the technician about cost and pricing. Every single time it's the same price for my same two rooms -- $100+tax. When I spoke with York a few days ago I confirmed with the company that I would again have the same rate for cleaning.
I left a check made out to York for $108.68 with our young female Jamaican friend who was watching our apartment while we were away. When the technician showed up he demanded $240 to do the job which they had done twice before for $108 (note: I'm a white male). I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt to York since I did use them in the past.
I had my sister (note: White Female) call York (she lives in the same exact apartment with almost the same carpets to see how they would price her job. As I expected, they charged her about the same as I was previously charged - $110+tax to be exact. I called York for an explanation but never heard back and I was hung up on three times. Use at your own risk but be aware that you'll be supporting racists who attempt to take advantage of people based on their sex and the color of their skin.
