Sampling for mold and humidity should be performed prior to restoring your flood damaged floors, walls, cabinets, etc. Sampling for mold and humidity should be conducted by professionals who have specific experience in mold sampling, humidity testing protocols, sampling methods, and interpreting results.
BRI is a local mold remediation contractor offering complete and total restoration services which includes carefully packing your personal items, sanitation, drying, reconstruction, mold remediation and mold prevention. Mold is a result of water damage loss and moisture which may be caused by a storm event or a small leak that may of gone un-noticed.

Called them to see if they can give my attic a look for any mold - owner came by, very nice, down to earth and gave me his opinion on what he would do if this was his house, what he thinks I should do based on my plans for the house, why and how much. They showed up about 1/2 hour before they were to start, explained what they were going to do today and a few updates along the way. Fernando, Jorge and Atilio (owner) I can't recommend them enough.
In the future, if I buy another property - I won't call anyone else. I asked them to come by to look at a pipe that was installed, no problem - came by, took a look, adjusted it and thats it. Great, quality work, great experience.

Atilio and his wonderful crew are the example of what any company should strive for. Understanding what the customer is looking for and then honestly providing feedback that supports their vision, while educating on how to properly obtain those results and what is actually involved. I'm a busy guy and I only take the time to write a review when a product or service truly impresses me. In this case I had a HUGE problem because purchased a house at auction only to find a catastrophe once we were able to inspect the property. The water had been there all summer, there was mold, the basement was destroyed, the wood flooring on the first floor was buckled, and the doors and other wood in the house had swelled in the humidity from the swamp-water sitting in the basement through the hot summer. QUICK RESPONSE It was September and we knew we only had a couple of months to get the main machinery going (electric, water, HVAC) and the house sealed before the weather got cold and caused further damage.
We were up against the clock and I had never faced this type of situation before. I called four restoration contractors (from big advertised brands to small local guys) to visit the property and give me estimates. Atilio Bernhardt was the only one who called back within 24 hours and showed up HIMSELF to inspect the property. VALUE Bernhardt has been doing this type of work all of Chicagoland for nearly 30 years.
They were not the cheapest bid for my project, but not the most expensive either. For me, VALUE means good work and good support at a reasonable price. Doesn't make sense to hire someone at half-price who can't - or won't - do the job properly. Atilio knew how to plan the project and also knew which experts he'd need to bring in at which times. I'm going to describe what we had to do in the next paragraph, so you can skip it if you don't want to know the details.
For this project, we had to drain the swamp from the basement, dry-out the electrical outlets, reconnect power from ComEd, get the HVAC inspected & restarted, inspect & secure the foundation, sewer, electrical, plumbing, structure and other main systems. Once the house was safe from the elements, we needed to do the mold inspection, gut the basement down to the foundation, and do a complete cleanup of the basement and surfaces in the rest of the house + clean the air in the house. QUALITY The Bernhardt team worked tirelessly for weeks to cover the work described above.
As you might guess, there were several surprises along the way (e.g., the house hadn't been properly winterized and we found 17 pipe bursts). They knew what the complications could be, and they kept on the lookout to catch them before more damage was caused. Atilio himself was on site almost every day, and happy to explain any part of the process when I had questions.
By the time they were done, we had a clean, unfinished basement, and a clean-smelling house with smooth floors & all the doors & windows operating properly. PEACE OF MIND As I mentioned, I'm a busy guy. All of the things I've described above created the BIGGEST VALUE for me which was Peace of Mind. I knew that Bernhardt would be there himself every day, he knew what he was doing, and he was available 24/7 should the need arise.

We hired an inspector to review our house before we put it up for sale. The inspector found mold and other issues in the basement. We contacted a few Restoration companies and became totally demoralized at the cost and attitude until someone recommended Bernhardt Restoration and Atilo to us. He explained everything to us step by step and put our mind at ease.
When the quote came, we were mentally prepared for real high number but they gave us a very reasonable quote compared to the competition. In addition, it was one stop shopping while the other companies did the mold removal, we would need to hire another company for rebuilding. Bernhardt was a one stop shop with a fixed priced. In a few days he and his team did everything they said they would do with no issues. They were a great partner and a great resource for us going forward. Great company, great prices and great partner. We were lucky that someone recommended them.

We found ourselves in the need of Restoration Company that could handle multiple issues from mold, water damage, leaking pipes and general repair of a lot of big and little items. We were lucky, Greg Owens from Illinois Inspection Consultants recommended that we call Atilio from Bernhardt Restoration for a quote. From that moment on, our lives got a lot easier. Atilio came next morning, look at the problems and made some great suggestions and then followed up with very attractive quote.

Bernhardt Restoration doesn't work for you, they work WITH you. An organization I belong to had some damage to our carpeting. Bernhardt worked with us in identifying the best course of action to replace the damaged tiles. In addition to the great work done by the crew, the communication about scheduling and arrival was outstanding. And their quote was right on.

Atilio Bernhardt and his crew were friendly, polite, and hard working. After discovering black mold in our crawlspace, they turned that stinky grimy place into a place suitable for a picnic. We had another well known company perform mold remediation in our basement Before we found Bernhardt Restoration. The first company actually made our basement worse and and we became ill with lung issues and migraines. Bernhardt was recommended to us. They provided the most expert and thorough service throughout our home. This is the first time that we can take a deep breath. Our health has improved tremendously.
