The foundation for Melrose Oriental Rug began when Michael Mouradian's father, Garabed, came here from Armenia to support his family as a rug restorer back in the early 1900's. As his only son Michael grew, he developed a keen interest in the rug business and began purveying rugs from his home. The demand for his wares and expertise spurred him to open the showroom on Main Street in Melrose to educate customers on the warmth, beauty and history of fine Orientals.His wife, Nancy and son, David and daughters, Carol and Lora, joined him to build a company that has expanded its showroom 3 times since it first opened.
Where do Oriental Rugs come from and which country makes the best rug? Any rug that is handmade in countries in or near India, Egypt, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan or Iran ( Persia ) is considered an Oriental rug. In the past, the best rugs were made in Persia. Now, every country makes high quality rugs and poor quality rugs - that's why it's important to buy your rug from a knowledgeable expert.
Oriental rugs are designed to pull all of the design elements in a room together, creating warmth and flow, but the selection process can be complicated - you must take into account room size, wall colors, and budget. An in-home consultation allows David Mouradian to feel your space before making recommendations and bringing selections that will compliment your taste.
To prolong the beauty of your rug, Melrose Oriental provides expert cleaning in our Melrose facility for all types of hand made rugs, including: wools, silks, dhurries, braided and needlepoint rugs. Pick up and delivery service is available. To preserve their beauty, Oriental rugs should be professionally cleaned, every two to four years.

We had a great experience with David and his team. We have a large, 100+ year old rug, about 12'x10'. Before we brought it Melrose Oriental Rug, it was in disrepair, many large holes that needed to be patched and a lot of work needed around the edges. They finished it a week early and the results were excellent! Great to have it back in our living room.

Melrose Oriental Rug cleaned our living area rug and we are very happy with the results. The rug looks/feels clean and refreshed, and the pile is no longer dented from heavy furniture. These folks are rug professionals! The process was very easy. I called the store before bringing in the rug. They asked a few questions about the size and condition, and provided a cost estimate. We brought the rug into the store, and picked it up two weeks later.

ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, THE BEST RUG CLEANING BUSINESS IN MASSACHUSETTS! If I could rate them 10 (TEN) stars I would. Dave and his staff have cleaned my oriental rugs (which are older and around which I have decorated my home) so that the rugs appear as if they are brand new. I have on two occasions had rug stains that I thought could never be removed, but, Dave and MELROSE Oriental Rug Company managed to remove them.
Everyone at this company (especially Dave) is so responsive, reliable, and incredibly competent. Dave and everyone at MELROSE Rug completely understand customer service, which is such a rarity today. If you need any services regarding oriental rugs, do not hesitate, and do not look any further. MELROSE Oriental, is hands down, the only place to go!

They have a nice selection of quality rugs. This is not a place to go for inexpensive area rugs. To be honest I'm surprised little stores like this still exists in this economy. A little expensive because of the third-party marked up but it's nice to be able to look at a wide variety of nice rugs in both varying quality, style, and color.
