In 1900, Canie Brown founded a laundry business in Asheville, North Carolina. His ambition was to provide the best laundry service available anywhere. In 1961, Mr. Brown was succeeded by his son-in-law, Bretney Smith. Mr. Smith's son, Bretney Smith Jr., took over the business in 1977. After 40 years at the helm Bretney handed the reins over to his daughter Stacy Smith making her the fourth generation of the family to operate the company.

I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH- DO NOT TAKE YOUR VALUABLE CLOTHING ITEMS TO SWANANOA CLEANERS! Read other reviews on YELP and Google as well before thinking about using this company. I am not the type to leave reviews that hurt peoples livelihood, but the treatment I received from this company was so egregious that a review is not only warranted but necessary to ensure this doesn't keep happening to other people.
I dropped off two expensive basketball jerseys for cleaning. I was nervous to do so because of their value and the way the numbers and logo are stitched on. Both jerseys are valued at $300 a piece. When dropping off I mentioned my concern to Jessi (who was working at the front desk) and asked if they had experience washing clothing like mine. She assured me that they did and that it wouldn't be a problem I left my jerseys and came back at the end of the week to pick them up.
When the jerseys were brought forward, I inspected them. One was okay, but the other jersey was completely ruined with marks and spots all over the numbers, lettering, and logo. While I was extremely upset on the inside I very respectfully brought this to Jessis attention. She proceeded to take my information down and gave me the owners number to call in.
She said they would be in touch and that I could also call sooner to speak with them. I called the owner Marvin as soon as I left the shop. This is the beginning of when the situation went from bad to worse. Again, I calmly and respectfully explained my situation. Not only did I not get an empathetic response or apology, but the blame was immediately passed onto the manufacturer.
I was told the problem was with the fabric and the care instructions. THIS WAS BEFORE HE EVEN HAD A CHANCE TO SEE THE JERSEY OR INVESTIGATE THE SITUATION. I was blown away and shocked by the treatment I was receiving but ultimately agreed to wait a few days for him to receive and inspect them and that I we could talk again. I followed up after the weekend.
I was very bluntly told that the issue was with the jersey and that they wouldn't be claiming any responsibility for the damages. I tried to reason with Marvin, and really tried to get him to put himself in my shoes. It's good business practice to take care of your customers and to take care of occurrences like this instead of the alternative but it was clear he wasn't going to budge on his position.
He was very nonchalant in telling me that I was out $300 and that he wouldn't accept responsibility for damages occurring while the jersey was in his care. After all, I got a dry cleaner to professionally clean them so they wouldn't get ruined. I am now needing to pay $300 to replace the jersey and will be pursuing Swananoa Cleaners in small claims court. JUST TO ADD: Again, I never leave negative reviews for businesses.
As a former small business owner, I know how much it can hurt a business. Equally, I will never back down when I feel like I have been wronged and treated unprofessionally. Unfortunately, this experience has resulted in me having to take action against this business. A good intentioned and good hearted person or business would never give back an item they damaged and not accept responsibility for it.

I traveled into Asheville for my wedding and needed to get my wedding dress steamed after traveling with it. I called about ~1 week prior and while they were busy they were able to fit me in and took great care of my dress! They even finished my dress early (and it had A LOT of layers). Overall, good prices and great quality services. Would 10/10 recommend!

If you are looking for somewhere to get your clothes pressed for a nice event, look no further! Stephanie and Randy were life savers! After calling around to a few places in the area with no luck, Stephanie came to the rescue. My fiance and I are getting married on Friday but are from out of town and as such, my fiance's tux needed to be pressed in a super short time frame. Stephanie and Randy went above and beyond, taking my fiance's tux, pressing it while we waited, and returning it to us in perfect condition within minutes!
Thank you to you both for helping us! They really care about the customer here, provide great quality and quick service, and are reasonably priced! Stop looking! Go see the friendly staff at Swannanoa Cleaners, downtown Asheville location on Coxe Avenue!

Absolutely the best Dry Cleaners place we have ever been to, staff is so warm and welcoming. Marvin helped us with a stain on my wife's dress that she just got for a wedding that is tomorrow. Instead of us running around trying on new dresses all day today we will get to enjoy Asheville since we flew in just for the weekend. Highly recommend! Thank you again Marvin you truly made our day!
