Several months ago we used Star rug cleaners. They had two guys show up, they worked hard, but the resulting job was way below satisfactory. I pointed out the stained areas that they missed and they redid the areas. The carpet was soaking wet and took a long time to dry. I would not recommend them to anyone. The reason I'm writing this review is that now I have used someone else.
The services were great. One guy showed up and did a great job. I'm not going to name him in this review because I don't think that would be right. However, he has been around for years and there is just no comparison between the results. Star did a bad job and he did a good job.

In the past, we had had acceptable work done by Star, so we used them again for our large Persian rug which had some smoke damage from the recent fire in Montecito. When it came back, one edge of the carpet was frayed and there were holes down to the backing. The owner came out and started to say that the rug was old and had been repaired before, which was not true, as we had spent considerable time examining the rug before the purchase.
He offered to take it back and make repairs, for which we would be charged. No thanks. A Suggestion: if you have a rug that you value, do not leave it in their care, in spite of free pick up and delivery. The rug we got back was not in the same condition as it was when it laid down on on floor just over a year ago.

I feel that I was taken advantage of by Star Rug Cleaners. Two individuals referred Star Rug Cleaners so I contacted them. The proprietor came out and gave me an estimate without walking through the house. His estimate was higher than any I have ever had, but I decided to go along with it because I had been told by other carpet cleaners that they could not remove the stains.
I was ecstatic when he said that he could clean the carpet. The carpet cleaners came and cleaned the carpet. Immediately after the carpet was dry, it was obvious that the traffic paths were still there. The carpet cleaners come by again, with no success. They told me that I would have to pay additional money if they were going to come again to clean it and that these areas would not clean because the carpet was worn.
Once again, I called the office and explained to the proprietor my disappointment and asked for my money back. However, he said he would send people back to clean the carpet again and would not refund my money. I told him that was not acceptable and asked him why he hadn't told me that the traffic paths couldn't be cleaned. He told me that he hadn't noticed them. I will never refer Star Rug Cleaners.

Just collected my vintage Navajo rug and it looks beautiful. This is the third time I have used star rugs and each time I have been thrilled with their service and the results. They've come to my house to clean a white linen floor rug twice and each time it comes up looking brand new. The staff are very nice and everyone is extremely helpful. 5 stars and a big recommendation from me.

After posting the rave review about cleaning our white sofa & chair cushions, things changed drastically. Days after, huge, dark stains appeared all over the cushions that had never been there before. Star Rug tried over & over to remove the damage. In that process, the fabric became threadbare & stains are worse than ever. They apologized & said they had no idea what happened and gave some restitution, but we now have to replace $5000 worth of furniture. We appreciate Star Rug attempting to correct the damage they caused, but they ruined very nice furniture that will cost a lot of money and time to replace.

I've used Star Rug Cleaners for years. They've always done a very good job for me. They are not the cheapest in town, but they sure are the best. I never found them rude; just professional. I have dogs in my house, and that can mean trouble for rugs. My rugs have always come back to me smelling just fine. Having tried other rug cleaners in town, I think their enzyme bath is the most effective.

I took a small wool shag rug in to be cleaned after about a year of hard use. This place had a few good reviews around the internets, and they had their price list on the web site, which I appreciated. The drop-off went pretty well--I choose my options and pre-paid, noting the passive-aggressive sign explaining why they require pre-payment. It cost about $120 to clean my 5x7 rug with the enzyme cleaner. Ouch.
I have no idea if that's reasonable or not, so I paid it. So far so good. It took them about a week to turn it around. They gave me a call to let me know it was done, so at 4:00 PM I called up and asked if I could pick it up after work, at about 4:45. The guy who answered the phone said "Yes, but we close at 5." Yes, I know, and I said I'd be there at 4:45. Rude.
When I got there (on time!) I walked in, looked around, and didn't see anyone. I heard a voice from the back say "It's in the front.", so I looked around, found my rug, and hauled it myself out to the car. Still rude! After picking up the rug I stopped at the grocery store. When I was finished shopping, I got to my car, opened the door, and began to wonder if a bum had used my car as a toilet.
The "cleaned" rug made my car smell like poop. Maybe it was just the cleaner, but I have no idea if they actually cleaned the rug or not. The smell faded but I think they might want to re-evaluate their supplies. I'd suggest they focus a bit more on customer service and maybe change cleaning products so that the outcome smells a bit better.
